High Permeability Permalloy Core For Current Transformer
Permalloy refers to an iron-nickel alloy with a wide range of nickel content, ranging from 35% to 90%. The biggest feature of Permalloy is its high magnetic permeability in weak magnetic fields. Their saturation magnetic induction intensity is generally between 0.6-1.0T. The simplest permalloy is an alloy composed of two elements: iron and nickel. Through proper rolling and heat treatment, they can have high magnetic permeability. At the same time, they can reasonably match the content of iron and nickel to obtain relatively high saturation magnetic induction. However, this permalloy has low resistivity and poor mechanical properties, so there are not many practical applications. Permalloy is essentially an iron-nickel (FeNi) alloy with very low coercivity, while the saturation magnetic density Bs, permeability and Curie temperature are all high, close to pure iron. Multi-element permalloy, the initial relative permeability can reach 30,000 to 80,000, but the resistivity is low, about 10-7Ω-m, it can be processed into very thin slices, so it can be used up to (20-30) kHz working frequency. Permalloy thin strips with a thickness of 0.02mm are commonly used in domestic engineering, and there are also 0.005mm thick thin strips. However, due to the insulation of the surface of the thin strip during the winding process of the magnetic core, its filling factor is greatly reduced, so in engineering rarely use. When the application frequency exceeds 30kHz, due to the low resistivity of permalloy, its loss will increase significantly.
